Digital Power Network Submits Comment to NSF on Critical Technology Priorities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Digital Power Network (DPN), the leading voice for American Bitcoin miners and digital infrastructure developers, today submitted a formal response to the National Science Foundation’s Request for Information (RFI) on Key Technology Focus Areas for the Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP).

DPN’s comment emphasizes the need to modernize and expand the federal government’s technology priorities to include distributed energy resources (DERs), virtual power plants (VPPs), and transmission infrastructure upgrades, technologies that are foundational to grid resilience, energy innovation, and the growing demand for high-performance computing.

“As flexible digital infrastructure operators, our members are uniquely positioned to stabilize the grid while supporting America’s most critical computing applications, from AI to cybersecurity,” said Hailey Miller, Director of Government Relations and Public Policy at the Digital Power Network. “We applaud NSF’s commitment to use-inspired research and urge them to recognize the strategic role of energy-enabled compute in advancing national security, economic growth, and technological competitiveness.”

DPN’s full comment is available here: Read the full submission.

The comment calls for:

  • Broadening the existing “advanced energy and industrial efficiency” category to include off-grid power technologies like SMRs and DERs;

  • Adding transmission and pipeline modernization as a standalone technology focus area;

  • Prioritizing applied research that integrates compute, energy, and infrastructure innovation.

With over 50% of the domestic Bitcoin hash rate represented among its members, DPN continues to lead federal engagement around the convergence of digital infrastructure and next-generation energy systems.
